Box clever: quiz our packaging experts
What printing methods do you recommend for printed packaging?
For despatch packaging and secondary packaging we recommend using flexo print.
Flexography (often abbreviated to flexo) uses a flexible relief plate that is suitable for printing on almost any type of substrate including plastic, metallic films, cellophane and paper. It is widely used for printing on the non-porous substrates required for various types of food packaging (it is also well suited for printing large areas of solid colour).
In recent years, flexo print finishing has been much improved and has the potential to mirror almost lithographic print quality when required, however traditional flexo print is still very popular and is very low cost.
For large runs of high-end retail cartons, luxury goods packaging and cosmetics packaging, lithographic printing offers the best print quality.
For extremely small print runs, digital print can be very efficient due to the very low set up cost. It also opens up the possibilities of personalisation.
